Suspect in domestic-violence stabbing fatally shot by Denver police
The suspect in a domestic-violence stabbing was fatally shot by police in Denver’s Globeville neighborhood on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
The incident occurred at Globeville Townhouses in the city, with the emergency call occurring at around 11:50 a.m. and officers forcing entry.
The stabbing victim was transported to Denver Health Medical Center with injuries following the domestic violence incident at the 300 block of East 51st Avenue, according to the Denver Police Department. She is in serious, but stable condition, said Denver Police Division Chief Ron Thomas.
The suspect was shot by police, and no officers were injured. Thomas said that five or six officers responded to the incident, and only one round was fired.
At almost 2 p.m., Thomas said an investigation is ongoing. A young, uninjured child was initially present, but was removed from the scene, he added.
Lawrence Scott, who is a neighbor of the suspect, has lived in the complex for more than two years. Scott was at work when he received a call from his wife, who he described as hysteric at that point.
“It’s really scary because it’s usually really peaceful here,” Scott said, describing the incident as a “traumatic experience that happened right next door.”
Kimberly Thompson lives on the same street as the suspect and heard the suspect’s wife screaming. She “sounded very desperate for her life,” Thompson said.
“I know she (the wife) goes through things with him,” Thompson said.
This is a developing story.
