Stomping Ground Brewery forced to can ‘shot for a pot’ promo
A Melbourne brewery has cancelled a “pot for jab” promotion due to negative commentary from social media activists.
Stomping Ground Brewery in Collingwood planned to give people who had had the COVID-19 vaccine a free beer at this weekend’s Great Australasian Beer festival and announced the promotion on social media on Thursday.
The brewery said that the festival sharing a venue with a major vaccination hub, the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, was the reason for the promotion. Customers were asked to show some proof they had had the vaccine jab before receiving their free drink.
But within hours it removed the post due to comments from some followers accusing the brewery of “propaganda” with several prolific vaccine sceptics among those leading the commentary with one person calling it “pots for clots”.
The promotion post was removed and the brewery put up a statement withdrawing the promotion.

“For those of you wondering what happened to our last post – based on the comments and feedback, we took it down and will no longer be going ahead with the Shot for a Pot promotion,” the brewery wrote on Instagram.
The Age and Sydney Morning Herald asked brewery staff and one of its directors for comment on Saturday with staff told not to comment. Management was aware of the media interest in the promotion.
