Shocking moment knife-wielding robber brutally beats cashier with glass bottle
A petrol station worker was brutally beaten by a knife-wielding robber during his night shift, leaving him with two head wounds and 14 stitches.
The incident took place at an Esso petrol station in Selly Park, Birmingham, at 7.15pm on March 14.
Shocking CCTV released by police shows the attacker approaching the cashier with a jacket covering his head.
He appears to be talking to the shop assistant before landing heavy punches repeatedly on him in the head while the victim stretches out his arm in an attempt to protect himself.
The robber is described as wearing a grey T-shirt and black tracksuit bottoms with his mask hanging off one ear.
The victim was left with two head wounds, one requiring 14 stitches, as well as bruising to his face, body and arms.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We've launched an appeal for information after a cashier was assaulted and threatened with a knife at a petrol station on Pershore Road, Birmingham.
"The suspect entered Esso in Selly Park at around 7.15pm on 14 March. He picked up a bottle of spirits and a can of beer and tried to leave without paying.
"When challenged by a cashier, he launched into a violent attack.
"The cashier attempted to detain the suspect until police arrived but was hit over the head with a glass bottle multiple times before being threatened with a knife."
The police said the man has been described as black, 5ft5in tall and around 25 years old.
He was wearing a thick, black jacket, a light-coloured t-shirt and a face covering. He spoke with a Birmingham accent,
"As part of our investigation we've released CCTV of the attack. If you know who the man in the footage is, please get in touch as soon as you can," they added.
