Security guard scoops £250k on scratchcard after going to Asda before first date
A security guard scooped £250,000 on the National Lottery after grabbing a scratchcard during a supermarket trip.
Luke Ashman, 21, from Dudley in the West Midlands, dashed to Asda on April 22 ahead of a first date that evening.
He bought himself an energy drink and a couple of scratchcards.
After getting back in the car, Luke decided to take a look – and realised he’d won the top prize.
He said: “I somehow drove home, stumbled along the drive, opened the front door and started to shout out to whoever was home.
“I was met by my Mum who was worried having heard me call out, thinking I had been in an accident.
“We checked over the scratchcard together before I called The National Lottery to check if I had won and that I was £250,000 richer. I immediately called my Dad and messaged my three brothers with my amazing news.”
Luke, who works at TK Maxx and is studying criminology at the University of Worcester, got to celebrate the win with his date – and the pair are still together.
He has a long-term plan for the money but first wants to treat himself to a Ford Mustang.
The rest of his winnings will go towards setting up his own property development business.

He added: “It’s my birthday in a couple of weeks. It’s then my Dad’s 50th and my three brothers have special birthdays too, so we’ll wait until after the 21st June to get together with lots of family and friends and have a fantastic party.”
When not studying or working, Luke enjoys playing snooker, tennis, and is a qualified football referee.
Luke is the second lucky National Lottery Scratchcard winner from the Black Country in the past few weeks.

The scratchcard costs £2 and prizes range from £2 up to the top prize of £250,000.
