San Diego Zoo ride horror as more than 100 stuck on aerial tram with kids screaming 'I'm scared' after vandals strike

FOUR people were arrested for felony vandalism in connection to an incident at the San Diego Zoo that left over 100 people stuck on the Skyfari Aerial Tram for two hours Saturday.

The men, ages 20 to 24, were inside one of the gondolas when the ride stopped around 2pm, said Officer Darius Jamsetjee.

According to a witness, the men were swinging their gondola from side to side, eventually knocking it from a rail or cable. This forced an automatic shutdown.

Kids on the ride could be heard shouting “I’m scared!” in a video from a passenger.

San Diego firefighters were called to make a “miscellaneous rescue” at 3:30pm, however, the rescue was called off after zoo employees were able to get the tram moving.

The ride usually takes about 8 minutes. The tram has around 80 gondolas that take people 40 feet off the ground. All occupants were taken off by 4:35pm and there were no reported injuries.

Fire crews remained at the zoo until all passengers were safely on the ground.
