Russian jet dumps fuel on US drone in jaw-dropping vid released by US military

    Video footage has emerged showing the moment a Russian fighter jet dumped fuel on a US military drone.

    The video, which was released by US European Command, shows the interaction between the surveillance drone and the Russian fighter jet over the Black Sea.

    In the clip, the MQ-9 Reaper drone was seen pointing backwards as the Russian Sukhoi SU-27 fighter jet began its approach.

    Once it was close enough the Russian fighter jet dumps fuel as it intercepts the US drone.

    Pentagon officials have said the midair encounter lasted between 30 and 40 minutes.

    National Security Council communications coordinator John Kirby told CNN that the drone had not been recovered and that he was “not sure” if it could be.

    Two officials have also said that Moscow had made clear it would attempt to retrieve the wreckage of the drone.

    But Kirby said the US had “made it impossible for them to be able to glean anything of intelligence value off the remnants of that drone, whatever remnants there might be on the surface of the water.”

    Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has since told reporters that a decision is yet to be made about retrieving the drone.

    He added: "This is the prerogative of the military. If they believe that it is necessary for our interests and our security in the Black Sea, they will do it."

    Reports also claim Russian and US officials have been in contact through military and diplomatic channels following the incident.
