Ring of Honor’s Jonathan Gresham to face Cara Noir in ‘historic’ wrestling clash
The biggest bout in independent British wrestling history is set to take place next month.
Ring of Honor's Jonathan Gresham shocked the world on Sunday when he stepped up to challenge Progress Wrestling's champion Cara Noir.
Gresham has been spending time in the UK, competing in a Progress ring, since his parent company went on a hiatus at the end of last year.
And with the United States-based promotion set to return to action in April, it could very well have a new name holding the championship with it after Progress management exclusively confirmed to the Daily Star that the pair will fight for BOTH titles on March 20, in London.
Co-owner's Martyn Best and Lee McAteer – who are also both associate directors of League Two football club Tranmere Rovers – called the match “history”.
Martyn told the Daily Star: “The fans and Club PROGRESS members are overwhelmingly telling us the events are back to our pre-pandemic best.
“Last night, our own champion Cara Noir defended his long-standing title just after the capacity audience had seen Ring of Honor champion Jonathan Gresham make a truly rare defence of his title in the UK.
And Lee added: “This has set up a historic face-off of two outstanding champions on March 20, with both the PROGRESS and Ring Of Honor world championship titles being on the line.
“And it’s taking place in Britain – a unique event in wrestling history and one not to miss.”
Cara had just beaten former WWE superstar Sw3rve The Realest – also known as Issiah Swerve Scott or Shane Strickland – while Gresham had successfully defended his title against Dean Allmark earlier in the night.
The matches both took place at Progress Wrestling's event Chapter 129: I Choo-Choo-Choose You”.
And the mega-clash will now happen at Chapter 130: Dodge, Dip Duck, Dive, Dodge, at the Electric Ballroom in Camden.
Ring of Honor will return with Supercard of Honor on April 1, during Wrestlemania weekend in Texas.
