Reporter drowned out by barge of Cornish singers belting sea shanties on live TV

A journalist had her live broadcast interrupted by a group of singers who drowned out her voice while performing at sea.

CNN Tonight presenter Hala Gorani apologised to her colleagues when she was discussing the Israelie Knesset confidence vote in Falmouth, Cornwall on Saturday.

She shared the hilarious segment on her Twitter and showed the behind-the-scenes where the a cappella singers' barge comes into shot.

Hala said: "When you’re anchoring the Israeli Knesset confidence vote and a traditional a cappella sea shanty singing barge floats past your location."

The nine people-strong singing group stand on their moving stage, as the lyrics goes: "I hardly know your name. Well, well, well, maybe some sweet day, love will come your way.

"Your name and mine will be the same forever."

Hala, who is sitting under the shade in a tent, is seen holding her earpiece while trying to talk to her colleagues in Jerusalem.

In a separate clip taken from the CNN programme, it became clear that her voice was completely drowned out by the harmonious Cornish folk tunes.

The anchor said: "I understand the vote is underway… Again, apologies.

"There’s an a cappella — a wonderfully harmonious group of a cappella singers — behind me, so apologies for our viewers if there’s a few audio issues…"

To Hala's surprise, the singing group The Oggymen commented on her tweet, saying: "It's us! We try not to do any shanties! Just Cornish-themed folk."

The group were working with a local company that made floating pontoons and happened to come across the live broadcast while singing in various locations around Falmouth waterfront.

They later posted on Facebook: "What happens when you're newscasting a crucial Knesset vote in Israel and the Oggymen arrive…apologies to Hala Gorani and CNN!"
