A royal commentator has claimed that the Queen will send gifts to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry this year, but has suggested there won’t be a communal present opening ceremony with the ex-royals.

There had been speculation throughout the year that Meghan and Harry might join the Queen at Sandringham for her festive celebrations, but with Christmas Day fast approaching and Covid restrictions tightening, this now seems unlikely.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had limited opportunities to see the Queen as she approaches her 70th year on the throne.

Harry last returned to the UK in July to unveil a statue commemorating his late mother Princess Diana, while Meghan remained in the US with the couple's children Archie and Lilibet.

But despite their reportedly fractious relationship with the Royal Family, royal commentator Neil Sean has claimed that the Sussexes can still expect to receive gifts from their family members.

“There will be some gifts but it will be very formal,” he claimed, speaking on his YouTube channel.

The Queen is yet to meet her great-granddaughter Lilibet who was born in June, but Neil emphasised that her distance from the ex-royal couple would not impact on the monarch’s goodwill.

“Of course she’s far too gracious to be too childish not to include them in the gift package, but whatever they do send each other, it will be at a distance,” he continued.

And, reacting to reports that Prince William and Kate Middleton would be buying Christmas presents for Harry and Meghan’s children, Neil suggested that this wouldn’t necessarily represent a “thawing” of the allegedly icy relationship between the brothers.

He added: “Moving forward of course, it is the season to be jolly, it is the season of forgiveness and goodwill, and naturally there will be some gifts.

“But to insinuate that they’re going to be gift-opening on Zoom calls, and all merrily together while clinking glasses from one side of the world against the other… it’s simply not going to happen.”

This comes as it was revealed that the Queen sent Meghan and Harry’s son Archie a waffle maker last Christmas, after Meghan had requested the unusual gift.
