Queen breaks royal tradition with her ‘unique’ and ‘weird’ cocktail choice
The Queen breaks royal tradition with her cocktail of choice, royal commentators have revealed.
Her Majesty’s love of the sweet, aromatised wine-based aperitif Dubonnet is very “unique to her”, according to Noah Rothbaum, one of the world's leading cocktail experts.
Speaking to the Royally Obsessed podcast about the monarch's favourite choice of drink, he told avid fans: "She has her Dubonnet cocktail, which is like two parts Dubonnet to one part gin,” the Daily Express reports.
"It's a little weird because there's a great schism in Dubonnets.
"The Dubonnet that's produced in Europe is different than the Dubonnet that's produced in America.
"The formulas are slightly different – though the one in America now tastes more like the one in Europe."
Previously, reports claimed Queen Elizabeth drank four cocktails a day.
Darren McGrady, her former personal chef, was forced to clarify that it isn’t actually the case.
He told Reader’s Digest: “I’m pretty confident she doesn’t have four drinks a day. She’d be pickled.”
Rothbaum continued to label Her Majesty's choice as “bizarre” and told listeners: “It was very popular in the 60s and 70s and then kind of disappeared for a while.
"In other parts of the world, they are enduringly popular.
"So it makes a lot of sense that the Queen would be a fan of it.
"But it is sort of bizarre, it's not a traditional Pimms cup."

The drink was a personal favourite of the Queen Mother too – but she preferred her beverage with 30 percent gin, 70 percent Dubonnet and a slice of lemon under the ice.
The late royal was reported to have said before a trip: "I think that I will take two small bottles of Dubonnet and gin with me this morning, in case it is needed."
Host Rachel Bowie commented: "It's not something that most people have even tried before.
"I've even had a hard time finding it in a store.
"It's very unique to her."
