Putin ‘fearing for his life’ after mass retreat causes goons to sharpen knives

    Russian president Vladimir Putin is reportedly “living in fear for his life” due to his army losing crucial battles, a senior Ukrainian military aide said.

    Earlier this month, Russia announced it was withdrawing from the Kherson region, in what was not only a crushing defeat for Putin but potentially a turning of the tides in the war that began in February this year.

    Kherson was the only regional capital Russia had managed to captured throughout the conflict as Oleksiy Arestovich, an adviser to the Ukrainian president's chief of staff told The Times that Putin is "very afraid".

    He said: “[Putin] is very afraid because there is no forgiveness in Russia for tsars who lose wars.

    “He is fighting for his life now. If he loses the war, at least in the minds of the Russians, it means the end. The end of him as a political figure. And possibly in the physical sense.”

    He added that as Ukraine’s victory over Kherson came following several retreats of Putin's army, doubt has begun to set in on whether Russia can come out of this war victorious.

    “This has forced even people who are very loyal to Putin to doubt that they can win this war,” Mr Arestovich said.

    Plans for a fresh attack on Ukraine from Belarus is apparently underway with Ukrainian authorities preparing for Russia's renewed efforts by evacuating the population from sections of the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.

    Authorities are fearing that a lack of heat, power and water could make living conditions difficult this winter.

    The World Health Organisation (WHO) says millions of people in Ukraine are to “life-threatening” conditions in the coming months.

    Mr Arestovich has also reiterated Ukraine’s plan to recapture all of its land seized by Russia in a war that now spans nine months.
