Protective mum boards bus and pummels 11-year-old she claims was bullying son

A mum from Alabama has been arrested after boarding a yellow school bus and getting into a fight with an 11-year-old child who she believed had been bullying her son.

37-year-old Nannatt Waldrop boarded the school bus in the town of Center Point in Jefferson County Alabama at 7:18 on Tuesday morning and proceeded to attack a child..

Waldrop claimed that the child had been targeting her son with bullying, and is now being charged with third degree assault, disorderly conduct, and trespassing on a school bus, authorities confirmed.

Only adults who work at the school are permitted to board the bus, meaning that Waldrop may have broken the law by doing so.

Administrators at the Jefferson County school are currently assessing the incident and deciding how to proceed.

Deputies took Waldrop into custody, and she was released later the same day with a bail of $10,500.

Authorities released a statement calling Waldrop's behaviour "disturbing", and saying that "it will not be tolerated".

In the statement, the superintendent of Jefferson County Dr. Walter Gonsoulin spoke of the incident as "unacceptable", adding that:

"While this is now a law enforcement matter, let me just say what I saw on that video deeply disturbs me.

"At no point is any type of violence acceptable, especially violence against students."

At present it has not been confirmed if the 11-year-old child suffered any serious injuries in the alleged assault.

It is not clear if Waldrop had any prior knowledge of alleged bullying against her child, or if she was reacting to a situation she may have seen unfolding on the bus.

A video showing Waldrop boarding the yellow school and confronting the alleged bully was published on the internet, and ultimately led Jefferson County authorities to trace and detain the 37-year-old mum on multiple charges.
