Princess Charlotte ‘gets impatient’ in conversation with Duchess of Edinburgh

A lip-reading expert has revealed what was said between Princess Charlotte and her great-aunt, the Duchess of Edinburgh, as they watched over the Trooping the Colour ceremony.

The eight-year-old daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived at the event in a carriage, alongside her mum, Queen Camilla and her brothers Prince George and Prince Louis.

Once at Horse Guards Parade, the children watched the proceedings from a building with Louis and Charlotte being talked through the service by their great aunt, Sophie Wessex.

But as Charlotte was watching the troops, cameras caught her chatting with her aunt during celebrations for the monarch's birthday.

However, it appears she was longing for it to be over as lip reader Jeremy Freeman claims she asked her aunt: "Sophie how long will it be?”

To which, the wife of Prince Edward replied: "I think it's now.”

During the Trooping ceremony, the King inspected the Guardsmen, in their scarlet tunics and bearskins, standing in two rows on Horse Guards before the colour was trooped.

For the first time since 1989, all five regiments of Foot Guards – the Welsh, Scots, Irish, Coldstream and Grenadier – were on parade together for Trooping.

This year, Trooping the Colour will not only mark the first extra birthday for the King but also the 260th birthday of the British Sovereign.

Buckingham Palace said: "His Majesty King Charles III will hold the appointment of Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiments of Household Division.

"The Trooping the Colour has marked the official birthday of the British Sovereign for over 260 years. 2023 will mark His Majesty King Charles III’s first Trooping the Colour as Sovereign."
