Prince William’s trust with Prince Harry ‘on thin ground’, royal expert suggests
Prince William’s trust with his brother Prince Harry is wearing thin and it is down to the Sussexes to offer an “olive branch”, a royal commentator has suggested.
The two brothers will reunite today (July 1) for the unveiling of a statue of their late mum Princess Diana.
It will be the first time the pair have been seen together in public since Harry candidly opened up to Dax Shepard about the struggles he faced within the Royal Family amid a reported feud between the brothers.
They will likely put on a united front for the cameras but Rupert Bell, talkRADIO’s royal correspondent, believes trust is low between William and Harry.
“It appears the brothers have been having normal brotherly conversation but clearly what is at the heart of it is William, when he talks to his brother, doesn’t want to suddenly find it being megaphoned across to America,” he said.
“That is the problem and that’s the trust that he has got to rebuild with his brother.
“At the moment that trust is on very thin ground and this will just be a building block.”
The brothers did reunited in April at the funeral of Prince Philip but Rupert believes the Diana statue unveiling will offer more of an opportunity for them to talk things over.
“They can use the surrounding side of the Diana statue for the more private, important aspects which is rebuilding the family again,” he continued.
“William and Kate want to see their nephew and niece and all the other members of the family but at the moment they’re cut adrift because of they’re own doing [Harry and Meghan].
“Harry and Meghan have chosen this so it’s on them to come out and offer an olive branch to the Royal Family. This might be the time to try to do it.”
The Diana statue will be unveiled this afternoon in the Sunken Gardens of Kensington Palace – one of the People’s Princess’ favourite spot in the area.
Harry has travelled without wife Meghan Markle and children Archie and Lilibet for the event.
A relationship expert has told this site the Duchess of Sussex will likely urge the prince not to add fuel to the fire.
