Pregnant woman faces serial killer charges after ‘poisoning 12 friends’
A pregnant woman faces serial killer accusations after 12 of her friends were fatally poisoned over the last three years.
Police in Bangkok, Thailand found Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, 35, with a bottle of cyanide as they investigated the latest in a string of deaths caused by the substance.
Siriporn Khanwong, 32, collapsed on a visit to the Ratchaburi province on April 14 and soon after died following heart failure brought about by a fast-acting lethal poison, an autopsy found.

The probe was launched following the death of Siriporn Khanwong, who collapsed during a visit to the western Thai province of Ratchaburi on April 14.
Police said the victims, aged between 33 and 44, died around Nakhon Pathom, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Phetchaburi provinces between December 2020 and April 2023.
A 35-year-old man died in the northeast province of Udon Thani in March this year, The Nation reports.
Families of most of the victims reported jewellery or money – worth between 60,000 and 300,000 baht (£1,410-£7,000) missing from their body or bank account.
Pol Maj-General Montri Theskhan, chief of the Crime Suppression Division, said officers are also looking to file other charges against Sararat, including theft.

He said: "If the evidence shows she has committed other murders, then the suspect will fit the description of a serial killer."
Police also said a 36-year-old woman reported feeling a tightness in her chest and had lost feeling in her hands after taking a pill offered by Sararat.
The woman, who had reportedly loaned 250,000 baht (£5,880) to Sararat earlier, was taken to the hospital and is now recovering.
Police have not identified all the victims and said some bodies had also been cremated.

Cyanide can be detected in corpses several months after death if a lethal amount of the poison was used.
Sararat, who is pregnant, denied all charges and experienced her blood pressure rising to 170-220 while in custody, according to her lawyer.
She was arrested after CCTV footage showed her most recent victim collapsing during their trip together.
The suspect, who is the former wife of a senior police officer, was reportedly denied bail by the court as she is considered a flight risk and as such is detained at the Central Women's Correctional Institution.
