Police arrest 17-year-old in connection with fatal shooting of another 17-year-old in Brighton
After the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old teen at a Brighton park, police say they’ve arrested a suspect, also a 17-year-old.
Brighton police have identified the victim as 17-year-old Josiah Gonzales.
The alleged shooter was arrested at his family’s home in Commerce City on Thursday, Brighton police reported in a press release. The identity of the shooter has not yet been released.
According to Commander Monce Portillo, after the case is presented to the district attorney’s office, a decision will be made whether or not the suspect will be tried as a juvenile or as an adult.
“BPD detectives have been working non-stop since Josiah’s death sorting through evidence, interviewing witnesses, and tracking down leads,” the press release said.
What caused the shooting between the two teens is still under investigation, police say.
The case will be given to the district attorney’s office later this week for the filing of formal charges.
