One man is dead and another is in hospital after a BMW was driven into a group of men near a Marks and Spencer store.
Surrey Police has launched a murder investigation after the altercation in Walton-on-Thames.
The force were called to the Church Street Marks and Spencer store at around 2.15pm to reports of an argument between a group of men.
One of the men allegedly got into his car, a white 1 series BMW, and is reported to have driven at two other people in the group.
Paramedics rushed to the scene but sadly, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead, SurreyLive reported.
A second man has been airlifted to hospital but his injuries are not deemed life threatening and he is expected to recover.
Surrey Police said the owner of the BMW has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and are seeking eyewitnesses to come forward.
Officers are carrying out a number of enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident, but the force is not investigating anyone else in connection with the incident, it has been reported.
Detective Chief Inspector, Dave Springett, of Surrey Police said: "We understand that a serious incident like this has caused a lot of concern in the local community and we would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to establish what has happened.
"From our initial enquiries, it appears that an altercation has taken place, leading to a physical confrontation, which then resulted in one of the group getting into his car and driving at two of the other men.
"Tragically, this has resulted in the death of one man and left another seriously injured and our thoughts are with their family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
