This comes as Storm Franklin causes disruption across the UK today. The railway operator warned users that there are “multiple line closures, flooding, trees on lines and loss of power across the North West and Yorkshire”, urging customers “not to attempt travel”. The network said they are unable to provide alternative transport as a result of the storm.

The storm caused severe flooding at Rotherham Station.

Northern Rail shared a picture of a fully submerged railway line, warning customers no bus replacements are available.

It said: “ROTHERHAM FLOODING: Trains are unable to call at Rotherham for the rest of the day.

“Bus replacements are sadly unable to be provided; customers are advised DO NOT TRAVEL.”

The railway operator also revealed flooding between Sheffield and Doncaster has resulted in all services between these two stations being cancelled.

It advised users to check their route before attempting to travel.

It said: “Due to flooding between Sheffield and Doncaster, services will be cancelled until the end of the day.

“UPDATE: Bus replacement services are now in operation between Doncaster and Meadowhall.

“Please check before attempting travel: https://northernrailway.co.uk/service-updates.”

Leeds has also been impacted by the flooding, with services from Leeds, Skipton, Ilkley and Bradford Forster Square being cancelled or delayed.

Northern Rail said: “Due to flooding between Leeds and Shipley, the line is blocked; affecting services at Leeds, Skipton, Ilkley and Bradford Forster Square.

“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed: DO NOT TRAVEL.”
