Mystery as beachgoer stumbles across ASHES urn washed up on UK shoreline
A BEACHGOER was given the chills after stumbling upon a mystery ASHES urn washed up on the shoreline.
Sean Clarke first thought the red container was a bodybuilding supplement container.
The 54-year-old then noticed the label had part of the word ‘cremator’ on it, but there was no name.
He was spooked out by the urn which felt heavy so he left it on some rocks on the beach in Margate, Kent.
However, the intrigued trucker returned two hours later to find the top was missing and it was empty.
Sean, who has been part-time beachcombing for 22 years, said: “It just seemed a bit weird.
“I thought it was one of those bodybuilding containers to start with.
“Then I saw it said what looked like ‘cremation’ on it.
“The label had partly peeled off.
“I can't imagine it had been in the water more than two or three days.”
Sean – who found it on Westbrook Beach in Margate, said: “I didn’t open it, I didn’t want anything to do with it.
“I went back a couple of hours later and it was open.
“Someone must have seen it and taken the top off it.”
Sean is trying to find out whose ashes they were and what happened to them.
He posted it on Facebook to try and trace the family of the deceased.
Celebrant Aly Austin replied: “Ooohhhh…clearly wished to be sent to sea.
“Should not have been done that way.
“If nobody comes forward, message me, I’m a celebrant and will take ‘them’ and give a proper committal and interment of ashes respectfully and appropriately!!
Michaela Flint said: “That is horrible, why would someone throw the whole urn and not just the ashes, very odd.”
Terrie Wheatley-Ward added: “Oh dear, whoever it is may they rest in peace.”
