My daughter was forced to RUN from the classroom as she was busting for the loo – now she's been slapped with DETENTION

A SCHOOLGIRL was handed a detention for going to the toilet during a lesson, her mum has fumed.

Jessica Hill, 16, was left so desperate during her science class she sprinted out to use the bathroom – only to be slapped with a half-an-hour punishment on her return.

Her mum Carina, 42, said: "What is she supposed to do, pee in the corner?

"She had been waiting 45 minutes to gain the attention of the teacher to be told, 'see how you go, the feeling might go away'.

"My daughter told her, 'I need to go, I have been waiting', but they told her she had to wait.

"Jess explained she had been waiting and really needed to go, but she was just ignored.

"So instead of embarrassing herself any further, she left the class to go to the toilet."

Jess said the teacher put a call out to senior management but she was back in her seat before it was answered.

The school says students are allowed to use the bathroom during lessons, but they are "encouraged" to go beforehand.

Carina said: "The only disruption caused was the refusal. But why was it refused?

"The school says it doesn't stop pupils from going to the bathroom during lessons and yet they did."

The mum said Outwood Academy Brumby in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, where Jess and her twin Jasmine are in their final year, is even aware of Jess' stomach problems, and still didn't let her go.

She also claims her daughter has been waiting weeks for a toilet pass which would allow her to use the bathroom whenever she needed while her medical issues are investigated.

Carina admits her daughter was handed the detention for leaving the classroom without permission – not strictly for going to the toilet – but claims she was left with no other choice.

A spokesperson for Outwood Academy Brumby, which has more than 600 pupils and is rated "good" by Ofsted, said: "It is simply not true that any student is punished for going to the bathroom during lessons.

"If a student needs the bathroom during a lesson, they are allowed to go. It is that simple.

"During every lesson there are always a couple of students who have to leave the room, however, we encourage all students to go before lessons and during allocated breaks so they don't disturb the learning taking place."
