Mum poured bleach in disabled baby’s feeding tube to ‘get a good night’s sleep’
A mum caring for a disabled baby boy poisoned him with bleach down his feeding tube so she could get a "good night's sleep", a court heard.
Brooke Evelyn Lucas, 26, sobbed as Australia's Supreme Court heard how her 13-month-old son, William, had been lying in his cot crying late into the evening at their Ellenbrook home in December 2018.
William was born with Pierre Robin sequence, a condition that can obstruct oxygen intake and requires 24/7 care.
On that evening she went to the laundry and returned to the cot with a bottle of bathroom tile cleaner, Exit Mould.
According to 7News, she poured the toxic chemical compound into the tot's baby formula before drip-feeding the toxic concoction to him down his feeding tube.
Lucas later confessed to police that she "needed a break" and "wanted to get a good night's sleep" but had sat and watched the helpless child struggle.
During the call, the mum falsely told the operator it was William's older sister who was responsible for the poisoning.
He was vomiting and having seizures, before eventually calling an ambulance.
William puked about a dozen times in the back of the ambulance and was hospitalised for 17 nights.
Miraculously, he survived and was taken to live with his grandparents.

Two weeks after the incident Lucas finally claimed responsibility and told police she thought the bleach would help "settle" him.
She claimed to have felt "relieved and relaxed" at the time.
After her arrest, Lucas spent time at a secure psychiatric facility and was charged with attempted murder.
Later, she pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of endangering her son's life.
Lucas' sentencing has been rescheduled for Friday in light of the new information.
