Mum, 25, is charged with causing death of one-month-old baby after dad accused of murder
A YOUNG mum has been charged with causing the death of her one-month-old baby boy after his dad was accused of murder.
Chantelle Stroud, 25, was held after Colby Lawton died at a home in Newbury, Berks, in May last year.
She is due to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court today charged with one count of causing or allowing the death of a child.
Stroud is also charged with one count of assault, ill-treatment, neglect, or abandoning a child to cause unnecessary suffering.
Colby's dad James Lawton, 27, is due to stand trial in November after being remanded in custody following a hearing on May 25.
He is charged with murder and GBH with intent.
Baby Colby was found in cardiac arrest by paramedics in the early hours of the morning on May 9 last year.
Tragically he was later declared dead in hospital.
A post-mortem examination showed he had suffered leg fractures, bruising and 45 rib fractures.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "A woman has been charged in connection with an investigation into the death of a one-month old baby which occurred last year in Newbury.
"On May 25 this year, James Lawton, aged 27 years, of Boreham Field, Warminster, Wiltshire, was charged with one count of murder and one count of GBH with intent in relation to the incident."
