More than 900 Iranian school girls ‘poisoned’

A rash of poisonings at girls’ schools in Iran impacted more than 900 students, officials have confirmed.

Iranian journalist Fereshteh Sadeghi quoted the number from Health Minister Bahram Eynollah, a member of the Majlis National Security Committee earlier today.

Officials have branded the incident a “chain poisoning”, but said the substance used was non-lethal.

Writing on Twitter, Ms Sadeghi said that “900+” girls were impacted by the poisonings nationwide.

They were poisoned with a “toxic substance”, Mr Eynollah said, but its low toxicity meant that none of the affected students are in serious danger.

Despite early reports of three arrests, Ms Sadeghi said officials have “rejected” these claims.
