Moment woman trapped inside her car in flooded ford is rescued by police officers who formed human chain to drag her to safety through smashed window
- Woman became stuck in a flooded ford near Worcester on Tuesday morning
- Police officers had to wade into the water and haul the woman from the vehicle
This is the dramatic moment a woman was rescued through the window of her car after it became submerged in a flooded ford.
Police officers had to wade into the water and haul the woman from the vehicle as it slowly sank deeper into water between Pershore and Drakes Broughton, near Worcester, on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services arrived to find the woman’s car already at least 30 feet downstream and submerged under water, before creating a ‘human chain’ to allow an officer to access the vehicle.
The volume of water disabled the car’s electrics so officers were forced to smash open the driver’s side window to get to her.
After successfully smashing through the window, an officer pulled the woman from the car before the entire vehicle sank into the water.

The heart-stopping scenes were captured on an officer’s body camera.
The driver can be heard saying sorry to the officers to which one responds: ‘Don’t apologise lovely, don’t apologise.’
Another can be heard telling her ‘we’ll get your stuff later, just watch your legs’ moments before they haul her from the broken car window.
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: ‘Officers from Worcester helped save a woman from a flooded ford earlier this week after her car became stuck in the water.
‘As the woman was in immediate danger officers acted quickly to rescue her with one officer wading into the water to keep the woman calm while other officers worked on breaking the driver’s window.
‘After successfully breaking the car window, the woman was pulled through the driver’s side window with officers at the scene forming a human chain to successfully rescue the woman from the vehicle before it sank into the water.
‘The woman was rescued from the vehicle within 20 minutes of the call to police.’

Chief Inspector Brian Gibbs added: ‘Unfortunately the woman found herself in difficulty in the ford and we’re really pleased officers were able to act so swiftly and rescue her before the vehicle sank too far under the water. Thankfully she wasn’t injured during the incident.
‘This is however a stark reminder of how dangerous the water can be and we would always urge motorists to take care and avoid driving through large pools of water.
‘I am immensely proud of the work of our team, they all acted in the finest traditions of policing acting quickly and instinctively working together as a team to rescue the lady.’
