The Met Office has issued nine fresh weather warnings as freezing temperatures overnight are set to bring icy conditions across the UK, especially where surfaces remain wet after earlier showers. Areas affected include East Midlands, East of England, London & South East England, North East England, North West England, South West England, Wales, West Midlands and Yorkshire & Humber.
The yellow ice warning is only the latest the Met Office has issued, as there are already five weather alerts in place across Britain.
Northern England and parts of Scotland is covered by an ice warning from 4pm on Monday until 10am on Tuesday warning of “injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces”.
Icy patches were likely to form in places after Tuesday was hit with patchy rain and sleet, the weather service said.
All of Northern Ireland is covered by a rain warning as “persistent” showers are expected to cause travel chaos.
Commuters have been warned of “spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer”.
