Prince Harry will attend his father King Charles' coronation but his wife Meghan Markle will remain at home.

Buckingham Palace has announced that the Duchess of Sussex and her two children Lilibet and Archie will remain in California for the big day on May 6.

Speculation over the plans of the couple has been rife in recent weeks, with many thinking they may travel together or even not come at all.

News that the Sussexes had been invited was announced by representatives of the couple some time ago but an answer from them remained elusive.

Over 2,000 people are expected to be in attendance at the event at Westminster Abbey.

The Duke's appearance in the ranks of the family will be the first time he has been pictured alongside them since he published his memoir, Spare.

Following the release of the book speculation over the Prince attendance was sent into overdrive with the allegations included seen by some as the final burning of bridges.

Others feared that the claims in the book indicated that things were already too far gone beyond Harry and the rest of the Windsor household.

At the time of writing, the exact reason for Meghan Markle staying at home with the children in the US remains unknown.

Prince Harry's decision to attend his father's coronation means he will however miss his son Archie's fourth birthday, which is held on the same day.

Harry and Meghan were contacted by email about attending the coronation, asking them to attend alongside a host of foreign dignitaries, public figures and representatives of members of vital groups and charities across the UK.
