Maskless crowd chant ‘Covid is a hoax’ outside hospital to heartbroken nurse
A junior doctor from A&E was left "heartbroken" after being met with a large crowd of maskless revellers following his long New Year's Eve shift saving and helping lives.
Dr Matthew Lee said he was "disgusted", after he heard some chanting "Covid is a hoax" while gathering outside St Thomas' Hospital in London.
Dr Lee, from Hong Kong, filmed the group after he finished his senior house officer (SHO) shift in the A&E department, reports the Mail Online.
He claimed some of the crowd were possibly Covid-19 conspiracy theorists as he questioned why many Brits still don't "realise the seriousness of this pandemic."
Footage of the crowd came as a further 53,285 people in the UK were diagnosed with coronavirus, the fourth day in a row where more than 50,000 positive tests have been announced.
The NHS, battling crisis in the pandemic, is fighting against a surge of hospitalised Covid cases, with the number of patients in hospital over recent days being higher than the peak of the first wave.
Dr Lee shared the video on Twitter, writing: "Worked the late A&E SHO shift on New Year's Eve and came out to this.

"Why do people still not realise the seriousness of this pandemic?"
He later added: "I'm disgusted but mostly heartbroken.

"I wish people could see the amount of Covid-19 cases and deaths in hospitals, and the sacrifices that healthcare workers make.
"This week alone has been so tough. Their ignorance is hurting others. I really wish people would keep themselves safe."
His tweet went viral and saw many condemn Covid-19 conspiracy theorists.
Piers Morgan shared Dr Lee's clip and said: "This is so disgusting. These morons shame Britain."
He later added: "Still seething about this. If it's a hoax, let's take all these imbeciles inside the Covid ward without PPE.
"See how brave they feel when confronted with the reality of people choking to death."
There are 23,823 patients in hospitals across Britain, with 1,847 people on ventilators, according to the latest Government data.
The highest number of patients on ventilators was on May 12, with 3,301 patients in mechanical ventilation beds. But the recent increase shows the trend continues to surge higher as the number of positive Covid cases rise.
