A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Sabina Nessa.
The Metropolitan Police announced the arrest on Thursday evening, six days after the young teacher is believed to have been killed on her way to a local pub in south-east London.
It's believed the 28-year-old was attacked in Cator Park at around 8.30pm on Friday September 17 while she was walking to The Depot bar in Pegler Square, Kidbrooke Village.
A friend has claimed she was on her way to a first date when she was killed.
Her body was discovered the following day near the OneSpace community centre, hidden under a pile of leaves.
A murder investigation was quickly launched and a post-mortem examination carried out on Monday, September 20, was inconclusive.
Now a 38-year-old has been arrested at an address in Lewisham and taken into custody where he remains.
It's the second arrest made in relation to Ms Nessa's murder, after a man in his 40s who was previously arrested was released under further investigation.
The Metropolitan Police has also now released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to in relation to the crime, who was seen walking in Pegler Square on the evening Ms Nessa was attacked.
The force has also released an image of a silver vehicle of interest also seen in the area.
Detective Inspector Joe Garrity, leading the murder investigation, said: “Sabina’s journey should have taken just over five minutes but she never made it to her destination.
"We know the community are rightly shocked by this murder – as are we – and we are using every resource available to us to find the individual responsible.
"We are incredibly grateful for all of those who have so far come forward and spoken to us but we believe there are still others out there who may have information that could help.
"If you think you saw Sabina or any suspicious behaviour in or around the park on Friday evening please speak to us."
