The Lyceum Theatre has been evacuated during a performance of The Lion King this evening (July 23).

At approximately 5pm hundreds of people were told to leave the venue mid-performance.

People attending the performance claim that there was no announcement, just an alarm signalling the emergency evacuation, leading to "confusion" among the crowd.

The theatre on Wellington Street, London has now been cordoned off by police, leaving performers and attendees scattered in the surrounding streets.

It is understood that the Wellington Pub has also been evacuated.

According to reports on social media sniffer dogs are also in attendance.

Met Police told The Sun: "Cordons were put in place as a precaution following receipt of a bomb threat at a theatre in Wellington Street WC2 at around 1600hrs on Sunday, 23 July.

""The venue was searched and nothing found. Staff have returned and the incident has been stood down."

One person said: "Watching the matinee performance of @thelionking in #london when there was an emergency evacuation of the #lyceumtheatre.

"Sounded like banging from the Royal Circle but police already outside when cast & audience left the theatre. Wellington Pub also evacuated with police cordon"

Another added: "I was in the theatre sitting in stalls. The show suddenly ended and we were told to evacuate immediately.

"Police squad outside as we were being evacuated. A lady then told everyone to run away from the building. Very scary not knowing what has happened".
