Larry David confronted Elon Musk about politics at celeb wedding

Larry David confronted Elon Musk at wedding over his support for the Republican Party and told him – ‘do you just want to murder kids in schools’

  • The comic confronted Musk at Ari Emanuel and Sarah Staudinger’s wedding
  • They sat at the same table during the star-studded St Tropez event last May
  • Details about the confrontation are revealed in Walter Isaacson’s Elon expose

Liberal comedian Larry David launched an attack on Elon Musk at a star-studded wedding earlier this year, equating his Republican affiliations with a desire to ‘murder kids in schools’, a new book reveals.

Walter Isaacson’s recent biography on the Twitter tsar details how the Curb Your Enthusiasm comic berated Musk over political views he expressed shortly before the marriage of their celebrity friends Ari Emanuel and Sarah Staudinger.

Entourage muse Emanuel, 62, and designer Staudinger, 34, tied the knot last year in a sun-drenched St Tropez ceremony attended by A-List guests including Emily Ratajkowski, Mark Wahlberg and Sean Combs.

Isaacson’s Elon exposé reveals Emanuel purposefully seated Musk and David at the same table to cause chaos because he knew their political views would collide.

‘I had told Ari I was not a big fan of Elon, so he seated me with him,’ David, 76, told another celebrity at the table – MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough – according to the book.

In an interaction Isaacson’s describes as ‘a microcosm of Twitter’ – a platform where high-profile people with polarizing views frequently lock horns – a ‘fuming’ David asked Musk: ‘Do you just want to murder kids in schools?’

The 52-year-old SpaceX boss was ‘baffled and annoyed’ by the interrogation, and he gave the ‘stuttered’ response: ‘No, no. I’m anti-kid murder’.

David went on to query how he could vote Republican if this were the case.

The Seinfeld co-creator confirmed the interaction to Isaacson and elaborated on what prompted it.

‘His tweets about voting Republican because Democrats were the party of division and hate were sticking in my craw,’ he told the author.

‘Even if Uvalde never happened, I probably would have brought it up, because I was angry and offended,’ David added – referencing the Robb Elementary School shooting which happened three days before the wedding.

In the weeks before the May 27 wedding, former liberal voter turned Republican Musk blasted the Democrats on Twitter, which has since been rebranded by the Tesla boss as X.

‘In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party,’ he wrote on May 18.

‘But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican. Now, watch their dirty tricks campaign against me unfold.’

Musk foresaw how this statement would cause ‘political attacks’ against him to ‘escalate dramatically’ – though he seemed blindsided by David’s confrontation amid the sunny southern France wedding.

David is a vocal supporter of the Democrat party. In 2010 he wrote a New York Times article slamming Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy- though he signed off his story with a sarcastic thank you to the president at the time, Barack Obama.

Until recently Musk was on the board of Emanuel’s company, Endeavor, the entertainment and media giant which owns the UFC and WWE.

Meanwhile David is among Emanuel’s star-studded clientele, and he officiated his wedding.

The wedding spat prompted a lengthy discussion on The View Tuesday as co-hosts debated whether it was appropriate for the comic to confront Musk about politics during a celebration of love for their friends.

Host Joy Behar voiced support for David and said that comedians ‘just say stuff’ and he was simply ‘seizing the opportunity’ to challenge the world’s richest man.

‘How often is Larry David going to be sitting next to Elon Musk?’ she said. ‘You know, Republicans, whenever there is a school shooting, they don’t want us to talk: ‘This is not the time is talk about it’.

‘Well, when is the time to talk about it? And so Larry stepped up and talked about it. Good for him.’

Her co-anchor Alyssa Farah Griffin countered that it was an ‘intellectually cheap argument to say you’re a Republican, therefore, the blood of children is on your hands’.

‘I don’t think it’s fair to just say because you vote with one party there is blood on your hands,’ she said.

‘I think it contributes to the polarization of Republicans are evil and Democrats are good or Democrats are evil and Republicans are – try to have a more honest conversation.

‘There is a big one to have with Elon Musk about some of the people he’s platformed.’

Co-host Sara Haines also blasted David’s question as a reductive ‘gotcha moment’ which over-simplified the debate.

‘There’s a spectrum of people that actually have nuanced views, this is a complicated matter, and what Larry David did, what I’m witnessing here, is just a gotcha moment,’ she said.

Ari Emanuel and Sarah Staudinger tied the knot in front of several celebrity friends

Ratajkowski kept it casual for the balmy wedding in a pink, sheer, sun-dress with cut out sides, and dark, black shades

‘There’s no way to respond and, one, I don’t think anyone is for murdering children.

‘So, that’s just an over-the-top statement, and how are you going to then dive into what you believe, your gun stance – because we only get two parties to pick from and sometimes they both suck a little, so, not equally so.

‘But to me everyone has different reasons they go for which party to reduce it to just to if you vote this way you must be this.’

The View’s Sunny Hostin agreed with Behar, saying that AR-15s have ‘no place in this country’.

‘If you vote Republican, I believe that you are complicit in that unless you are actively working day and night to change that within your party,’ she said.

‘It strikes me that Elon Musk is a little more interested in his money. He’s a little more interested in Tesla. He’s more interested in neo-Nazi platforming on Twitter or X.

‘You really have to think when you align yourself with a party as to what that party is doing for you, your family, your country, and the Republicans, in my opinion, should be ashamed of what they’re doing.’
