Shocking footage taken in the aftermath of the La Palma volcanic eruption in the Canary Islands has captured the moment a wall of lava begins pouring into a house as firefighters look on in shock. Molten rock and smoke as been spewing from the mouth of the volcano Cumbre Vieja national park in the south of the island since 3:15 pm local time on Sunday. No injuries have so far been reported but 500 tourists have evacuated from the Spanish holiday island.
One of the firefighters can be overheard telling another: “My God, what’s going to happen to this house!
“Jose, we’ve got to put this fire out any way we can.”
He added: “Use a hose as well.”
The property was one of around 20 said to have been damaged by volcanic lava flows emitting from the Cumbre Vieja following Sunday afternoon’s eruption.

A firefighter appeared to be standing in front of one of the rivers of lava as it smashed its way into the dining room over the sound of breaking glass.
Another home-made video also showed another stream of lava engulfing a country house which disappeared under a plume of black and white smoke.
An anguished local who filmed the destruction it was causing said as it crossed a hillside road above dozens of houses: “The lava’s heading in the direction of those homes and is going to eat them up.
“All the properties in the area below this road the lava is crossing at the moment are going to disappear.”

Firefighter Victor Manuel Fernandez, posting footage of the lava reaching other homes in affected parts of La Palma, said: “The force of nature is unstoppable.”
Around 500 tourists in a hotel in the coastal resort of Puerto Naos were among an estimated 5,000 people evacuated from their homes.
Regional hotel association Ashotel said it was putting itself “at the disposal” of island authorities.
An Ashotel spokesman said: “Association chiefs will meet today with the island council.

“We are channeling official information to associates and sending a message of encouragement to the entire island.
“Ashotel has made itself available to the authorities of La Palma and the Canary Islands to collaborate as best it can in light of the emergency generated by the eruption of the volcano in the neighbourhood of Las Manchas in the municipality of El Paso at 3.10pm local time yesterday afternoon.
“The vice-president of Ashotel in La Palma, Carlos García Sicilia, has been in direct and regular contact with the island council’s Councillor for Tourism Raúl Camacho, for the past few days and more intensely since the beginning of the volcanic explosion.
“Likewise, he is maintaining regular contact with different representatives of tour operators that work on the island to coordinate the official information and pass it on to its associates.”
