The husband of a British woman murdered by a gang of robbers has described his “nightmare” ordeal – as he begged with the thieves not to hurt her.
Caroline Crouch, 20, and her family were attacked in the Glyka Nera suburb of Athens, Greece, on Tuesday, May 11, by three men.
Before breaking in at around 4.30am local time, the trio killed the family's dog to stop it raising the alarm and left the animal hanging on a fence.
Her husband Charalambos Anagnostopoulos, 33, told the thieves where they could find cash in a bid to stop his wife from being tortured.
The trio pointed a gun at their 11-month-old daughter's head before strangling Mrs Crouch after she started screaming.
According to Greek newspaperDawn, Mr Anagnostopoulos told police: “I heard my wife screaming for help tied to the bed while I was tied to the floor.
“We screamed not to be hurt. The baby was crying, my wife was crying and someone or some people were looking for the house to find more money and jewelry.
“Suddenly they left the room and I couldn't hear my wife's voice anymore.”

He added: “I wish no one ever goes through what we went through last night. It was a nightmare.
‘”We begged the thieves not to harm us. We told them where the money was and asked them to leave us alone. The police will catch them.”
Mr Anagnostopoulos managed to call the emergency services at 6am after untying himself.
Greek police have since launched an urgent manhunt to find the killers.
Mrs Crouch was born in Greece but had a British passport, and was studying at the University of Piraeus.
Her former headteacher Mrs Meropi Machairidou told Ethnos: “She was a great creature, she was always smiling, smart and with character.
"She had many dreams and was happy with her husband.”
She added: "The couple was very much in love. She left the island as soon as she got married because her husband's job was in Athens.
"While he was on the island, he participated in theatrical performances, he loved life.”
