Hunt for Brit rugby star who vanished in Barcelona still a mystery, say family

The family of a British rugby star who went missing in Spain have issued a desperate plea for information as his disappearance last month remains a mystery.

Levi Davis has been missing since October 29, his family are still hoping for a breakthrough in the investigation but described progress as "very slow".

The 24-year-old had visited a friend in Ibiza before travelling alone by boat to Barcelona, where he was last seen on CCTV leaving a pub in the busy La Rambla area of the large Catalan city.

Since then, the investigation has revealed little information about what has happened to the rugby union player.

Spanish police have confirmed they found Levi's passport two weeks ago and said that since arriving in the city he had not used his phone or accessed his bank accounts.

There have also been a number of potential sightings of the rugby player, including one person who claimed to have seen him looking "lost and confused" in a homeless area of the city.

But Levi's mum Julie revealed the sightings haven't helped to find him yet, she told the MailOnline: "There have been a few sightings of someone looking like Levi near La Boqueria Market and the Arc de Triomf monument over the last week but sadly we are not sure it's him."

Now, Levi's family have spoken of their frustrations about the lack of information surrounding his disappearance.

Julie told the BBC: "Since the last thing we heard about the passport, there's been no more information."

She added the last month had been "an emotional whirlwind" and "the scariest time of her life".

Levi, who plays for the Worthing Raiders, left the UK to visit friends in Ibiza after sustaining an injury.

His mother thinks "the accumulation of all the struggles and the injury" had taken a toll on him mentally and that he needed some time alone.

Levi's friend Tom Varndell also told the BBC how he had been trying to "deal with things a bit more on his own" in recent months "rather than going out there and trying to seek help – or ask people for support".

Julie added a message for Levi, saying: "We're all missing you, all the family care for you so much. We just want you home, son.

"Please come home and we can sort out whatever is going on, together."
