Horror as man and woman in their 20s are mauled by two dogs and rushed to hospital after trying to separate the fighting hounds

A man and woman in their 20s have been hospitalised after trying to separate a pair of dogs fighting. 

Police were called to a home in Campbell Close, Hereford, yesterday afternoon around 5.15pm following reports of the animals, who lived in the same house, attacking each other. 

The man suffered injuries to his hand while the woman suffered facial injuries after they were both knocked to floor. Both remain in hospital. 

The dog which caused injury to the man has been removed from the property and secured in a kennel. 

The breeds of the dogs is unknown and West Mercia Police said it had no further updates at this time.

It comes a week after Denvor (pictured),who was adopted from Dogs Trust Snetterton less than a month ago, attacked his 60-year-old owner

In a separate incident horrifying footage showed another XL Bully attacking an 18-year-old boy with horrified passers by hitting the vicious canine with a mop 

A spokesperson for the force said: ‘Earlier this evening, officers responded to a report of a dog-related incident which caused injuries to two people in Hereford. 

‘The incident took place at a residential property in Campbell Close, Hereford, at around 5.15pm on Sunday, October 22.

‘A man in his 20s suffered a hand injury attempting to separate the dogs and a woman, also in her 20s, suffered facial injuries after being knocked to the ground. They have been taken to hospital.

‘The dog which caused the injury to the man has been recovered and is currently secured at kennels.’

It is the latest in a spate of attacks that have been reported up and down the UK.

Just days ago a large dog, suspected to be an XL Bully, mauled a teenage boy outside a block of flats in Scotland with local heros’ trying to fight off the animal with a mop.

The dog was seen tied to railings shortly after and its mouth and nose were said to be covered in blood. Police have confirmed the dog has since been euthanised.

Last week, a 60-year-old woman was also mauled by her pet XL Bully which she had adopted from Dogs Trust less than a month ago. 

Following the attack the hound escaped, fleeing to nearby Brisley Church of England Primary Academy. 

Children were rushed inside until the dog – called Denvor – was tied to a post so the school could evacuate. 

It then emerged the six stone dog had been adopted by the victim from Dogs Trust Snetterton less than a month before the ‘vicious’ attack.  

But the UK animal welfare charity still refuse to back the banning of the American XL Bully, which Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged to ban by the end of the year.

In a statement to MailOnline, a Dogs Trust spokesman said: ‘We confirm that there has been an incident involving a dog that had recently been rehomed from our Snetterton rehoming centre, and our priority at this time is to provide as much support as possible to people.

‘Public safety is paramount, but a focus on breed specific legislation is not the best way to achieve this.

‘We continue to call for a radical overhaul of dog control measures to help avoid further tragic incidents and keep members of the public safe.’

The Prime Minister has vowed for the dangerous dog breed to be banned by the end of the year, stating that the ‘pattern of behaviour’ in the animals ‘cannot go on’.
