Harry and Meghan ‘must reinvent themselves to stay bankable’, expert claims
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have to "reinvent themselves" if they want to stay in the public eye, a royal expert has claimed.
Royal Family broadcaster Margaret Holder has stressed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be able to keep capitalising on their alleged mistreatment by the monarchy and press.
Writing in the Express, she said: "Perpetuating their victim status may deliver global publicity welcomed by the media giants who have commercial contracts with the Sussexes.
"However, eventually people will tire of hearing the same old cracked record and the couple will have to reinvent themselves if they are to stay bankable in a rapidly changing market with many competitors."
Holder's comments come after Harry and Meghan launched a number of perceived attacks on the institution in several high-profile interviews.
In their explosive sit-down with Oprah, Harry criticised the lack of protection from the Royal Family against the intense press scrutiny of he and his wife.
He also told Dax Shepard in a podcast that he wants to "break the cycle" of "genetic pain and suffering" for his children – an apparent attack on his father Prince Charles.
Meghan has also claimed little was done to help her mental health struggles while she was a senior royal and even alleged an unnamed member made a racist remark about her then-unborn child Archie.
Meanwhile, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand's updated biography Finding Freedom sheds new light on the falling out, detailing the aftermath of the Sussexes' explosive interview with Oprah.
The book's publisher Harper Collins has said the new edition will include "behind the scenes of Harry and Meghan's ground-breaking interview with Oprah, details behind the couple's move to California (and) the various philanthropic and business endeavours the Sussexes have been involved with".
However, Holder is less than impressed by the updated edition, accusing the couple of having no regard for Meghan's father, Thomas Markle, who they "cast into merciless oblivion for the monstrous sin of having a few silly pictures taken".
She also claims there has been no mention of the "suffering they have casually inflicted on Harry's family", particularly his grandmother the Queen.
"Elizabeth the Second – or maybe we should call her Lilibet the First – must be dismayed at another broadside from supporters of the Sussexes…" Holder added.
Lawyers for Meghan and Harry have said the authors do not speak for them.
