As the Group of Seven (G7) leaders gathered in Germany for the three-day summit, Vladimir Putin launched a missile strike on a packed shopping center in Kremenchuk, in central Ukraine. Videos posted on social media showed flames engulfing the building, with potentially hundreds of people inside it, according to Ukrainian authorities. In his nightly address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “[The strike on the shopping centre] is one of the most defiant terrorist attacks in European history. Before the air alarm there were about a thousand people [inside the mall]. Fortunately, as far as we know at this time, many people managed to get out.” Overnight, Ukrainian emergency services said at least 16 people had been killed and 59 wounded in the attack. The Summit will conclude today as eyes turn to the NATO Summit in Spain.
