French lorry brings UK village to standstill as driver jammed on narrow street
A huge HGV lorry from France has brought a UK town to a standstill after blocking a crucial coastal road and causing damage to buildings.
The Frenchman behind the wheel ended up blocking off the narrow road, much to the annoyance of angry locals in Starcross, Devon, who say the driver was stuck for nearly half an hour.
Unlucky locals were eft sat in huge traffic jams as people exited their vehicles to watch the drama unfold.
One resident said that the HGV driver didn't speak a word of English, making it difficult for him to follow instructions from other road users and lorry drivers.
Once wedged into the narrow road, the HGV lorry reportedly ended up damaging a couple of roof tiles on one building and a drainpipe.
A 25-minute operation to remove the trapped lorry took place, with one fuming resident alleging that issues with trapped lorries "happens all the time".
They said: "It happens all the time. It's where they put in the new road control measures. They've just made it worse. They extended the pathway and now the road's actually even narrower than before.
"It's crazy. All they needed to do was put up traffic lights. Everybody who goes in the pub just moans and moans about it."

The man, who did not want to be named, was asked if he had taken a photo of the trapped lorry as other residents had, but replied: "To be honest, it happens so often that I didn't bother."
Many have said there have been similar problems for as long as 20 to 30 years, DevonLive reported, with one resident jokingly saying: "Bet the widened pavement helped hehe."
Another local commentator joked that the side of the van, which read "Rennes, Cherbourg, Boulogne, Glasgow," should read "New York, Paris, Peckham," in reference to Del Boy Trotter's van from Only Fools and Horses.
