Fire in northeast El Paso County remains at 21 acres with 60% containment
The Birdseye fire in northeast El Paso County outside of Colorado Springs remained at 21.6 acres as of Saturday morning, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Crews have contained 60% of the fire, the sheriff’s office said on Twitter, but the mandatory evacuations within a 2-mile radius of the 19000 block of Birdseye View in Peyton are still in place. An additional 1-mile radius was under pre-evacuation.
Evacuated animals can be taken to the El Paso County Fairgrounds, 366 10th St. in Calhan, and evacuated people can go to the Patriot Learning Center, 11990 Swingline Road in Peyton.
As of Saturday morning, one structure had burned, but no people or animals had been injured, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials said the fire began in a structure and then spread.
