Female police officer, 28, injured after being deliberately mowed down on 999 callout in attempted murder

A FEMALE police officer has been injured after being deliberately mowed down on a 999 callout in an attempted murder.

Police in Ayrshire, Scotland, are appealing for the community’s help following the smash in Kilwinning early on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place around 1.30am, when two uniformed officers were on their way to assist colleagues with an inquiry.

The officer, 28, was hit by a blue Ford Focus deliberately driven straight at her, sustaining serious leg injuries as a result of the impact.

She was rushed to University Hospital Crosshouse for treatment.

The driver fled the scene, and enquiries have been ongoing since, in attempt to track them down.

Detective Inspector Stephen McCulloch of Saltcoats CID said: “Our thoughts are with the constable, her family and colleagues and we continue to offer them all the necessary support.

“This incident is being treated as attempted murder and we will use all tools at our disposal to trace the person responsible.”

Anyone with information that could be relevant, who either had seen the car since, or was driving through Kilwinning town centre in the early hours of the morning and has dashcam footage, was urged to get in touch.
