THE exact areas snow is expected to fall this week have been revealed with four inches set to pile up in some places.

A section of Scotland is set to see flurries of snow fall as an Artic blast brings wintry weather conditions to much of the UK.


WXCharts show snow will gather in parts of Scotland between Fort William and Inverness.

Data shows snow will begin piling up to a depth of more than four inches (11cm) from midnight on Friday and into next week.

A very light sprinkle of snow is expected further down the country near Carlisle.

A polar blast is forecast to hit the mountains and linger on higher ground for about a week.

In the days ahead, many parts of the UK can expect rain fall at some point as the mercury drops.

Today, showers and wind will hit the northwest while southern England and East Anglia face early cloud and rain.

It is expected to be very cold overnight with some rural parts of England and Wales will be see temperatures close to freezing.

Tuesday will bring fine and dry with sunny spells for England and Wales.

It will be cloudier in Northern Ireland and Scotland with showers giving way to some rain in west.

Patches of rain will move to the southeast on Wednesday which will turn heavy for all areas from the southwest on Thursday.

On Friday, Brits in the north should prepare for high winds with heavy showers while the south can relax with some sunny spells.

Large areas of hill fog affecting the southwest will clear quickly to the east through the morning, with sunshine and showers following behind.

The Met Office says: "In the north, these showers may turn heavy and thundery while winds will be moderate to fresh, with gales in coastal areas.

"Over the weekend, unsettled conditions are likely across most parts bringing spells of rain and strong winds, with continuing gales in the northwest.
