Eight-year-old boy grabbed by strange man in broad daylight as he walked back from shops in Ipswich before kicking himself free and running away

POLICE are investigating after an eight-year-old boy was grabbed by a man in broad daylight as he walked back from the shops in Ipswich.

The stranger, who had been using a bottle bank, said hello to the youngster before following him as he crossed the road and eventually walking alongside him.

Officers said the man then attempted to pick the boy up but he managed to kick himself loose and run away.

The incident happened on Saturday, January 14, between 10.45 and 11am at the junction of Pheasant Road and Kingfisher Avenue in Ipswich, Suffolk.

The man is described as being a white male, 5ft 7 and in his mid 30s with an English accent.

Suffolk Police said he was wearing dark clothing and was carrying a black rucksack with an orange stripe.

They are now appealing for information from anyone who may have been in the area on Saturday.

A force spokesman said: "Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have seen a man matching this description in the areas mentioned at the time stated."
