Devastated dad pays tribute to 'best mate' son, 5, found dead after mum 'shouted in street' as woman detained
THE dad of a five-year-old boy found dead after his screaming mum ran into the street has paid tribute to his "best mate".
Tragic Dylan Scanlon died at a house in Oldham on New Year's Eve.
A woman in her 30s has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Dylan's devastated dad Gary Keenan – who is understood to be separated from the tot's mum – shared a heartbreaking tribute.
"Dylan was my best mate," he said.
"He was a happy, funny and cheeky little boy, who was full of excitement – especially about doing new things.
"Dylan loved going to school, playing with his friends and dogs and going for drives with me to parks and lakes.
"He loved being at the lake but not walking around it – he was there for the ice cream, a ride on daddy's shoulders and a McDonald's on the way home.
"His favourite times of year were Christmas and his birthday – he knew he'd be spoiled.
'HE WAS MY BEST MATE'
"I've been looking through memories on my phone – videos of him crawling and learning how to walk.
"I will always remember his face when I got home from work – he was always happy to see me and I loved spending any time with him that I could.
"Dylan will be sadly missed by all family and friends, especially his brother, who he loved and absolutely adored.
"I loved watching them playing with each other, looking after each other and just doing what brothers do.
"On behalf of my family, I ask people to respect our privacy."
Police and paramedics were called to the address in Limeside at around 6.30pm on December 31.
Despite their efforts, Dylan couldn't be saved. He died at the scene.
WOMAN DETAINED
An investigation into the tragedy continues, and Greater Manchester Police confirmed the case will be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to "previous contact".
Neighbours said Dylan was a "beautiful little boy", who was "cruelly" taken too soon.
They told how a local frantically tried to save the boy as the tragedy unfolded.
One neighbour told The Sun Online: "The boy’s mum came out into the street and shouted: ‘He can’t breathe'.
“A woman, who lives a few doors away, heard what was going on and went into the house.

“But it was too late and he couldn’t be saved."
