Denver weather: The freeze continues but a slight warm up begins
Denver has been frigid the past few days, breaking 100-year old records for cold temperatures. The freeze will continue until the weekend, but the worst of the arctic blast is behind us. Soon the city may even have some above-average temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder, Denver should get into the 20s on Thursday for the first time since just before sunset on Monday.
The high is forecasted at 24 degrees, with snow showers lasting until about 9 a.m. The day will begin cloudy and then clear up. Denver International Airport received 1.5 inches of snow overnight. Another half-inch of snow is possible during the morning commute.
Thursday night will again be blisteringly cold, as temperatures fall to six degrees and wind chill values hang around negative two degrees.
Meteorologists at NWS say Friday should reach 31 degrees in the afternoon with a 20% chance of snow after lunchtime and overcast skies. The snow chance builds to 30% after sundown and lasts until midnight, about a half-inch of accumulation is possible. Low temperatures will again plummet to nine degrees.
Forecasters predict the week-long freeze to end Friday as highs reach 43 degrees under the sun.
Sunday could start a trend of above-average temperatures that lasts into next week.
