Denver weather forecast: Snow is on its way to Colorado
Break out the winter clothes Thursday as temperatures drop below 30 degrees and Denver could get its first measurable snow of the season.
The high Thursday is 45 degrees, but temperatures will drop as a cold front enters the area in the morning. The low Thursday is 25 degrees, and as the day goes on and the temperatures get colder, precipitation will turn to snow in the evening.
Drivers on mountain highways should prepare for heavier snow, as some areas of Interstate 70 like Vail Pass and Eisenhower Tunnel could see double digit snow accumulations.
In the evening, there is a 90% chance of snow showers, with many cities across the Front Range expected to get snow accumulation.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder increased their prediction of snow accumulation for some areas of the Front Range to up to 4 inches, but most areas should get about 1 to 2 inches.
A few possibilities for some moderate to briefly heavy snowfall in the Front Range could happen Thursday evening.
A jet-related lift to the north could affect Boulder to Greeley to the north; Upslope in the foothills could be strong west and southwest of Denver; and another band parallel to the main band is just south and east of Denver.
All of these possibilities could widen the range of snowfall in the area, forecasters, and everywhere should get a little accumulation.
The evening snow should have little impact on Denver’s rush hour, and temperatures then should still be warm.
The main area of snow should shift south and slow down after midnight, but some very light snow may continue until around sunrise on Friday.
Skies will gradually clear Friday, and the temperature will warm to a 43-degree high.
