A dead body found in a village on the outskirts of Wigan may be covered in ‘hazardous substances’, police have said.
A police cordon has been in place since, with a forensic tent erected on the road inside the tape.
Greater Manchester Police officers in Wigan said they ‘believe there are potentially hazardous substances on the body’.
Anyone who has been in contact with the body should seek medical help immediately, the force added.
The scene is ‘contained’ and there is no risk to the wider area.
A spokesperson from GMP Wigan said: ‘Police are working to identify the body and enquiries are ongoing, we are keen to speak to anyone who has any information about this incident.

Residents on Kilburn Drive said their street and neighbouring Lyndon Avenue had been taped off since yesterday evening.
Pictures taken this morning show a forensic tent in place within the cordon.. Crime scene investigators have also been spotted at the scene.
Substances described as ‘potentially hazardous’ are believed to be on the body of a person found dead in Wigan, police said.
Officers have urged anyone who had direct contact with the body to speak to officers or seek medical advice immediately.
