Cops hunt hungry pair who scoffed 12 burgers in just SIX minutes – before walking off without paying £174 bill
COPS are hunting a greedy pair who scoffed 12 burgers in just six minutes – before walking off without paying a whopping £174 bill.
The couple walked into Bite Me Burger in Marlborough, Wiltshire and asked if they could take part in the restaurant's eating challenge.
Eatery bosses offer customers the chance to eat a dozen burgers in six minutes. Anyone who completes the challenge gets their bill paid.
But staff explained the contest wasn't an option as it needs to be pre-booked.
Despite that, the pair ordered 12 burgers, ate them all and then refused to pay up, claiming they didn't need to under the terms of the challenge.
Police have now issued CCTV footage of a man and a woman they want to track down after the incident on February 5.
They say they're treating the dine-and-dash as theft.
Simon Wetton, who owns the restaurant in Kingsbury Street, said: "We do something called the burger challenge.
WHAT A PICKLE
"If you can eat 12 burgers in six minutes, the bill is on us.
"But the challenge has to be pre-arranged as we have to be on-hand to time it properly.
"These people say they wanted to do the challenge, but it was a Saturday night and we were very busy – we didn't have the staff and time to do it.
"We said that unfortunately, they couldn't do the challenge.
"They still ordered 12 burgers and said they wanted to – and we explained that we were sorry, but it just wasn't practical."
IT'S NOT FOR FRY
However, when it came time to pay, the pair said they'd finished the contest and wouldn't hand over their cash.
The waitress went to get a manager – but by the time they returned, the couple had walked out.
"I rang them and said, 'Look, you owe me money, please come back and pay it', but they hung up on me," said Simon.
"They said they were going to slag off the restaurant on social media.
"As it happens, I could see from the CCTV that it's crystal clear they didn't eat the burgers in six minutes – even though it wasn't pre-arranged."
Cops said they're now investigating.

"I don't want to waste police time or that of the courts, but on top of all that restaurants have gone through with the lockdown, this is a matter of principle," Simon said.
"People shouldn't be allowed to get away with it."
