Brits to bask in 18C temps next week as lockdown eases and rule of six begins

Britain looks set to enjoy a mini-heatwave when lockdown restrictions begin to ease next week.

Temperatures are expected to soar to a balmy 18C from next Monday, March 29 – the date Brits are finally allowed to meet friends and family again outdoors.

The Met Office predicts March 29 and 30 – Tuesday and Wednesday – will see the best of the weather, particularly across London and the south east of England.

No more than six people – or two households – will be allowed, but many will get the first chance to mingle with loved ones in months.

The UK has been in lockdown since November to help reduce the spread of Covid -19, meaning millions have been unable to leave their homes without good reason.

The Met Office also revealed the warm weather could continue beyond the Easter weekend.

"High pressure may spread northwards through early April, which will bring a period of settled conditions for most," it said.

"Following this, drier than average and brighter conditions may prevail, with areas away from the far northwest of the country receiving below average rainfall."

Occasional sunny spells are expected to continue this week.

Easter looks set to remain dry and mild, with some sunshine over the weekend.

As well as meeting in group outdoors, March 29 will also see outdoors sports resume, with the hospitality sector reopening from April 12.

Beer gardens are also expected to reopen around April 12, while the aim is for all legal limits on social contact to be removed from June 21.
