Brits face -3C and ‘100% chance’ of snow as Scandinavian big chill sets in

Brits face a big chill this weekend with "100% chance" of snow.

Weather maps turned an icy blue as the mercury dropped to -3C on Saturday morning.

The only area forecast above freezing was London at 2C as a Scandinavian weather front sets in, the Express reports.

The freezing conditions now look set to last well into next week, with snow forecast across parts of Scotland and north England.

The maps by Netweather showed temperatures were set to range from -3C to 2C across the UK on Saturday morning.

One chart predicted northern Scotland has a 100 percent snow risk at 6am on Thursday March 11.

By 9am the risk has moved further south, with parts of northern England and Wales showing a moderate risk of snow.

BBC Weather forecaster Stav Danaos said: “To end this week, and push into the weekend it will stay settled with a new area of high pressure moving down from the north but it will bring some cold air so frost and fog likely, a little bit of sunshine, but it will be chilly by day. This area of high pressure has been moving down from Scandinavia from Wednesday onwards.”

The cold snap is set to last into Monday and Tuesday, before warming up slightly come the evening.

On Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures are forecast to reach the early teens in the south of England.

One chart valid for 6pm on Wednesday shows the south turn yellow as highs of 13C are forecast.

But while the south sees a slight thaw, Scotland and the north of England are set to see the cold temperatures continue.

Snow risk maps also show northern parts are expected to see some snowfall.

BBC Weather forecasters said it will turn cold from Saturday, with some snow showers possible in Scotland.

They said: "From Friday and through the weekend, the weather pattern will shift slightly with high pressure building into Ireland.

"This will bring a brisk northerly wind and a weak cold front into the country from the northeast.

"The weak front will mostly bring rain, but some snow flurries are possible on hills in Scotland.

"Temperatures over the weekend will fall well below average for a few days. "There will be widespread frosts overnight."

The Met Office also forecasts snow next week, as conditions remain unsettled.

From Wednesday March 10, they said: "A trend towards more unsettled conditions widely across the UK is then likely next week.

"Further spells of rain and showers will continue spreading in from the west, with some snow possible on high ground in northern parts of the country."
