Britain to see freak ‘April snow’ in new long-range weather forecast

The strange spring weather looks set to continue with forecasters predicting the possibility of snow in April.

You would be forgiven for thinking the recent weather across the UK has not been in keeping with the norm.

From frequent showers suddenly clearing to make way for sunshine, the weather shows no signs of stabilising in the next few weeks.

In the first week of April, forecaster Netweather say: "In the second half of the week, it looks probable that high pressure will develop extensively to the north of the British Isles, resulting in Britain moving into a more settled spell of weather with predominantly easterly and north-easterly winds.

"This means that it will probably be rather cold and cloudy in most eastern parts of the country, with some light rain or showers heading in off the North Sea at times."

Strangely for April however, they do not rule out the possibility of snow.

"Some of this may produce sleet and snow on high ground, especially in eastern Scotland and north-east England, where some cold Arctic air is likely to head in from the north-east at times. "

Meanwhile from April 10 to April 16, the weather will be extremely varied across the UK.

Netweather says the week will see "plenty of dry and sunny weather, although eastern England, particularly East Anglia and the south-east, will be relatively prone to cloudier weather coming in off the North Sea, due to winds blowing mainly from the north and/or east."

Temperatures will probably be slightly below normal again for most, but with an emphasis on relatively warm days (away from North Sea coasts) and cool nights, resulting in potential for frost to be quite frequent at night.

This week will see more thundery storms with high-speed winds of up to 70mph and persistent rainfall.

The Met Office has forecast that this week will also see some of the fastest winds so far this year.
