A career criminal who bears a striking resemblance to Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been jailed after notching up his latest conviction.
BoJo doppelganger Jason Watson, 43, alongside Adrian Awty, 45, stole £1,280 in cash from a handbag at a cafe in Hull.
Together, they have taken part in 44 burglaries, Hull Crown Court was told, reported the Hull Daily Mail.
The cash from the handbag had been left by cafe owners who had gone away. It was given to a female member of staff to help keep the place running while they were on holiday.
Prosecutor Jazmine Lee told the court that the pair also stole keys, bank cards and a pair of Vivienne Westwood earrings, making the stolen loot worth around £2,280. The pair admitted burglary.
The exact date of the incident is unknown, but the men were later arrested and the Boris lookalike tried to barricade himself into the room he was found in.
It emerged in court that Watson had convictions for 210 previous offences, including 125 for theft and 23 for burglary.
He had been jailed for four years on January 10, 2020, for burglary but was released in September this year.
His accomplice had convictions for 96 previous offences, including 52 theft-related incidents and 21 for burglary.
He was jailed for three years and four months in October, 2019, but was also released early.
Julia Baggs, in mitigation, said that Watson had managed to clean himself up from an apparent drugs addiction during his latest prison sentence.
She said: “He has been dependent on drugs for the vast majority of his adult life. He quickly, sadly, fell off the wagon and made some backwards steps.
“This offending was clearly impulsive. He wants to work when he comes out in the community.
And Cathy Kioko-Gilligan, representing Awty, said the offence was “opportunistic”.
She explained: “There is no excuse for the defendant's behaviour.
“He was under the influence of drugs at the time.
“He has had a long-standing history of drug addiction.”
Recorder Megan Rhys bluntly told the pair: “You both have appalling records.
“This offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.”
The pair were handed 10-month prison sentences.
